Overview:
The Christmas season is filled with excitement and joy as people give gifts, attend parties and spend time with one another. But, if we are not careful, the business of the Christmas season can cause us to miss Jesus– the true reason we celebrate Christmas. During this season, there are a lot of things that we expect and hope for. Perhaps the greatest expectation we should have is to encounter Jesus. Unfortunately, people seem increasingly focused on the material aspects of Christmas, rather than the true gift that we receive through Jesus. Through Jesus, we receive the opportunity to be in a saving relationship with Him. It is through this relationship that we receive the gifts of salvation, love, joy, hope and peace.
Discussion Questions:
- What are some of the things that you are looking forward to this Christmas season (parties, gifts, traveling, etc.)?
- How does the business of the Christmas season put us in a position where we miss Jesus?
- Why was Jesus an unexpected gift? What is/are the gift(s) that we receive from Jesus?
- This Christmas, how can you help those around you receive the true gift of Jesus?
