Warm-Up

1. Are you someone who hates confrontation or do you enjoy it?

2. Share a time when you gave grace or when grace was shown to you. How did that impact you?

Know It

Read Acts 15. What stands out to you?

1. How did the church handle different perspectives in theology? Do you think they handled the disagreement well?

How were the Jewish Christians misrepresenting the Gospel? What was Paul and Barnabas’ response to this?

2. Read Acts 15:13-18. How did James contribute to the conversation? Discuss the meaning and power of verse 17.

3. Why would asking the Gentiles to obey all the Jewish laws make it “difficult” for them to turn to God (v. 19)?

4. How do you think the Christians in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia would have responded and felt after receiving the letter from the counsel (v. 23-29)?

5. How do Paul and Barnabas handle their disagreement over Mark? Do you agree or disagree with the way they split up?

Own It

1. Have you ever experienced someone trying to add something to the Gospel? Have you ever tried to add things?

2. How can we ensure that we are not consuming false teaching that goes against the Gospel?

What can you practically do to evaluate teachings and make sure they align with Scripture?

3. How have you witnessed unity and fellowship in the church between people with significant differences?

Have you ever had the chance to experience fellowship with someone where the only thing you had in common was your faith in Jesus?

4. What have you learned about having hard conversations and church leadership through this chapter?

Next Steps

1. How is this passage challenging you to continue growing in your knowledge, understanding of Scripture, and spiritual maturity?

Is there a conversation you need to have or is God asking you to make a change? What are your next steps to take action?

2. The Gospel is for everyone! Do you believe that God’s grace is enough for you?

If not, take time to take these burdens to God. It might be helpful to set up a time to talk through what is holding you back with your group or a pastor.

Challenge

Reread Acts 15. What can you practically do this week to “keep the main thing the main thing” the way the church did in this passage?
