Wednesday Night Discussion Questions

Series: The Beatitudes
Topic: Part 4 – Humility
Speaker: Nathan Sell, Middle School Pastor
Date: November 16, 2022

Overview:

In Matthew 5:3, Jesus says “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” Essentially, blessed are those who have humility. Humility is something that we are easily attracted to, but struggle to posses ourselves. In our humility, we admit that we are not enough and are in need of someone, or something, to fill our need. Nobody likes to admit that they aren’t enough, but isn’t that a truth of the Gospel? Through our humility, we realize our need for Jesus, and realize that only He can save us and lead us to eternal life. When we view humility in this light, it is understandable why Jesus would, essentially, say “blessed are those who have humility”.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What do you think it means to have humility?
  2. When you think of someone having humility, who do you think of? What makes you think of them?
  3. When have you had a problem, but struggled to find a solution? What is something that you feel like you currently need? How can you turn to God, through humility, to help you in any circumstance?
  4. Why do you think that we must have humility in order to realize our need for Jesus?
