Read John 1

John 1:35-37

The following day John was again standing with two of his disciples. As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!” When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus.

John 1:38-39

Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them. They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day. ‘

1. In this passage, two disciples followed Jesus after John declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!” When Jesus noticed them following He asked, “What do you want?”. Even today this question is prevalent. What do you want? What are you really looking for? What do you believe life is really all about?

2. Why do you think the disciples answered with the question that they did, “where are you staying?”

2 Timothy 4:6-7

“As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.

2 Timothy 4:8 NLT

And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.”

3. As we wait eagerly for the Lord’s return God wants us to join with Him in His work. Jesus’ response to the disciples question in John 1:39 was an invitation to join Him. He did not give them a sermon or life map right there, he just invited them to come with Him. How is God asking you to step out in faith and join Him? Consider your relationships at work and in your family. Maybe serving or leading in a new capacity that you have not yet considered. Look at where you are at in life right now…what is God doing and how can you join Him.
