Matthew 16:13-14
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
Matthew 16:15-16
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
1. How did the disciples think that the world perceived Jesus? How does our world today perceive Jesus?
2. This big question in verse 15, ‘who do you say I am?’, can be glossed over quickly. Take a moment to answer this question for yourself, who do YOU say Jesus is?
John 1:1-4, 14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life…14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
John 5:17-18
17 In his defense Jesus said to [the Jewish religious leaders], “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” 18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
3. In these verses we see God as the creator, Lord. He is our Savior through his Son and our friend. How would you describe Jesus as the Lord in your life, as your Savior and as your friend?
