Warm-Up

1. What passage of Scripture would you say is your family’s theme verse?

2. Have you ever physically helped build something that is now in your house?

Know It

Key passage: Proverbs 24:3-4 – “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.”

Read Joshua 24:14-15 & Matthew 25:34-40. What stands out to you in these passages?

1. No matter what stage of life you are in, what does it look like to build a house and family with wisdom?

What are some practical things this entails?

2. Why does Joshua bring up “the gods of your ancestors” and “the gods of the Amorites” as the main opposition to Israel’s faith in the Lord?

Why are the Israelites called to “throw away” all other gods in order to be faithful to God?

3. Why is it so important to the Lord that we serve “the least of these”?

4. When reading all 3 passages above, what connections do you see between them?

Own It

1. Commentaries state that serving the Lord means “active obedience to His will and honoring Him with your life.” With this in mind, in what ways would you say you and your family are serving the Lord? Are there some things that show you are serving something else?

2. Are you currently more of a thermometer (taking the temperature) or thermostat (setting the temperature)?

What can you do to help set the “temperature” of your family?

3. What do you tend to drift towards when you aren’t focused on God?

What is a common stumbling block for your family that keeps reappearing?

4. How have you been able to care for others together as a family?

Next Steps

1. What does it look like for you to lead in your family to serve God in your current season?

2. What do you want your legacy to be?

What can you start doing today to establish that legacy?

3. Have you ever sponsored a child through an organization like Compassion?

Is that something you are feeling led to do now?

If you weren’t able to sponsor a child on Sunday, check out the link HERE to see which children are still in need of support.

Challenge
