Warm-Up

1. Share something you have experienced recently that you are thankful for.

2. Have you ever witnessed a miracle that can only be explained by God?

Know It

Read Acts 12. What stood out to you?

1. Why do you think Peter was able to sleep despite his upcoming execution? What does this reveal about his faith?

Do you think you would have been able to hold onto the peace of the Lord in these circumstances?

2. Why do you think the church prayed so earnestly for Peter yet were hesitant to believe the answer to their prayer?

3. What is significant about how Herod died?

Compare and contrast Herod with Peter. How do we see pride and humility in their stories?

4. Why do you think Luke starts the story of Peter’s rescue with James’ execution?

Does this bring up any questions, frustration, or discomfort for you?

Own It

1. When pressure and hardship show up in your life, do you initially respond with panic or prayer?

What can you do to start making prayer your first response instead of your last resort?

2. What is your response when God doesn’t answer your prayer the way you hoped?

Let Acts 12:24 encourage you – “But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.”

3. What does it look like to live for something that will last?

What temporary things distract you from the permanent things God is building in your life?

Next Steps

1. Where might pride be creeping into your life?

What can you do to take a step towards humility instead?

2. What “chains” in your life feel difficult to remove?

What step can you take to move towards God with these chains?

Challenge

Reread chapter 12 this week. Spend some extra time in prayer focusing on the “chains” in your life and the lives of others that feel impossible to remove. Let Mark 9:24 be a part of your prayer – “I believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
