Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Genesis 15:2-6
But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”
Genesis 15:5
He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars–if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “so shall your offspring be.”
Genesis 15:6
Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
Proverbs 3: 5-6
Trust in the Lord will all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
John 8:36
So if the son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
1. Read Genesis 15:2-6. How did Abraham’s question to God reveal a natural/human fear when it came to trusting God for his circumstance? What did God give Abraham as a reminder of His faithfulness to keep his promise?
2. What decision are you currently facing that may seem impossible and requires trust in who God is instead of being fearful of the circumstance you are in? Can you identify any natural fears that are present as you seek to fully rest in who God is?
3. Ashtyn encouraged us that in order to step out into the freedom that is ours in Christ, we must pause and take time to notice the bigness of who God is (Fear of the LORD), but also identify anything standing in the way of trusting God for our next steps. Is there anything standing in the way of you fully trusting God in your current situation? (i.e. unconfessed sin, unforgiveness, trust in self)
