Read 1 Kings 12: 1 – 20
Rehoboam sought wise counsel but instead of listening to good advice he followed the counsel of peers and friends and his decision led to major consequences.
1. What are some consequences of listening to someone who tells us what we want to hear versus what we need to hear?
2. What decision are you currently facing where you need wise counsel? Who are the people in your circles that could help you make a wise decision?
3. Scotty shared that there is a difference between moral support and wise counsel. Moral support is like a cheerleader who will agree with us and help us confidently make our case, while wise counsel is like a coach who tells us the truth and sees our blind spots so that we can make good decisions. Am I seeking those who will give me moral support or wise counsel? Whose advice am I currently ignoring that I need to listen to?
