Romans 12:2 — “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
1. Read Romans 12:1-2. Paul knows the power of our thoughts because our lives are always moving in the direction of our strongest thoughts. Therefore, if we change our THOUGHTS, we can change our LIFE. Why do you think God puts such an importance on changing out thought patterns? How have you seen this be true in your own life?
2. We begin the journey of transforming our mind by getting to the ROOT of the specific thought. We don’t just attack the SYMPTOM, we focus on the SOURCE. What are some of the deep-seated lies you have believed about yourself and the world you live in? How did you come about realizing the root of those thoughts? (Scripture – Matthew 4:4)
3. After getting to the root of the lie, we then need to break out of the RUT and dig new trenches of truth. We can do this by making DECLARATIONS OF REALITY. It’s saying out loud things that are true. (Scripture – Romans 7:15-18, 2 Corinthians 10:5) Some declarations could be…
- “It’s not about me.”
- “Only Jesus can satisfy.”
- “Achievement doesn’t define me.”
- “My people love me.”
What are some declarations of reality that you need to start consistently saying?
4. Lastly, we need to REFRAME the story. Your life story has facts, but it’s how you interpret the story that will impact the rest of your life. (Scripture – 2 Corinthians 12:7-10)How have you reframed some of the past chapters of your life story? Are there some next steps you need to take to reframe any other part?
