Big Idea

Never let the presence of a storm cause you to doubt the presence of our God.

That day when evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4:35-41

Discussion

Read Mark 4:35-41 (above).

It’s in the middle of the storms we face in life that our faith is tested most. “Don’t you care” is probably a question we’ve all asked the Lord a time or two during the storms we had to face in life.

Four key points that are important for us to remember when we face a storm:

  • Storms are real.
  • Storms reveal some things about us.
  • Jesus is with us in the middle of the storms we face.
  • Our storms will serve a purpose.

What are some of the greatest storms you have had to face in life? How did you respond and what did you learn about yourself during those times? Did you find yourself feeling closer to the Lord or further away during that storm? When you were on the other side of that storm, can you identify a purpose that it served in your life?

Next Steps

We are all in this Coronavirus storm and we are all being impacted at some level. Draw close to the Lord during this time and according to His promise, He will draw close to you. (James 4:8) Think of some ways in which it will serve a great purpose in your life.
