Acts 8:1-25

Scripture

On that day a great persecution broke out against the Church at Jerusalem and all except the Apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria…Those who were scattered preached the Word wherever they went. Acts 8: 1, 4

Observation

The persecution of the Church brings about the spreading of the gospel and the expansion of the Church in Judea and Samaria. As believers told others about Jesus, people were healed, miracles were performed and many believed in Christ and were saved.

Application

All believers are Christ’s witnesses, His ambassadors. God gives me opportunities and responsibilities to tell others of His love, grace and mercy in Christ. He can work out His redemption purposes even through difficult circumstances. Everyday I can share the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ with other people who do not know Him. I can tell others how I have been changed, reconciled and forgiven by God through His Son.

Prayer

“Heavenly Father, I am a witness of Your grace and mercy towards me, a sinner, saved by trusting in what Christ has done for me on the cross. You have freed me from the penalty of my sins, death, and given me eternal life with you. Change my heart and please give me a burden to share this good news with others who do not know you. Today, help me to put my energy and resources towards expanding Your Kingdom and Your purposes, not mine. I praise You for Your everlasting and unfailing love and goodness. Amen.”

Now You Try

Read Acts 8:26-40

Scripture

Get to a place where you can focus and read the daily Scripture passage several times. Take time to read and allow God to speak to you. Write down the one or two verses that stick out. Even consider rewriting the verse(s) in your own words.

Observation

Make a basic observation about the scripture you just read. What stood out? Was something repeated? What is the author trying to communicate? What does the Scripture passage teach you about God? What does it teach you about humanity?

Application

Ask, “What does this verse(s) mean for my life?” How might this verse affect your heart — how you feel? How does this verse challenge your thinking? How does it affect your will, asking, “What changes do I need to make in my life as a result of this passage of Scripture?”

Prayer

Write out a prayer to God. Scripture is God speaking to you, take this moment to speak back. Take a moment to say, “Thank you,” confess to Him what needs to change, or ask for something that is on your heart.
