Luke 23:34
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Matthew 18:21-22
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven.”
1.What are some reasons forgiveness can be so difficult and what do you believe about forgiveness? Think about your family messages, cultural sayings or even expectations from others that have been placed on you.
Read Matthew 18:23-35
2. Is forgiveness driven by feeling or decision? How did the master and the servant handle forgiveness in this parable?
3. When we think about forgiveness, we often think it is a one time decision. The truth is, it can be ongoing, especially depending on the circumstances. Is there an offense you need to forgive so you can continue to live in freedom? Is there something you need to seek forgiveness for? Take time this week to seek God and ask these hard questions of Him.
4. What will forgiveness cost you?
If you are having a difficult time working through forgiveness, reach out to your group leader or one of our pastors. You are not alone. We are here to pray with you and can help direct you to other resources if needed. Forgiveness can be a difficult process and you do not have to face your next steps or healing alone.
Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
