Matthew 4:19-20
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

Matthew 21:28-31
28 “What do you think? – There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ 29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. 30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” — “The first,” they answered.

The theme verse for this series, The Way, is Matthew 4:19-20 written out above. Jesus calls his disciples to follow him, he makes them a promise and they respond with action immediately. We keep coming back to this important point, the difference is in the doing. God desires for us to live out the way of Jesus through developing spiritual habits. In Sunday’s message we looked at what God says about generosity, our hearts and that He desires a growing relationship with us. Money can be a difficult topic to discuss because for many people it can be a source of stress and conflict. For others, there is freedom and peace. In your groups, consider that we all have had different relationships with money and God deeply wants to heal and restore every area of our lives – even our ties to our finances.

  1. In what ways have you been blessed by someone else’s generosity and how did you respond?
  2. When you think about the illustration of our hearts being linked to our money, what thoughts or words come to mind?
  3. Giving reminds us that everything we have comes from God, it stretches us in our dependence on Him and helps us to prioritize what He has given each of us. How is God stretching you in the area of generosity?

Everyone was given an envelope with money in it on Sunday with the purpose to bless others. If you have a story to share we would love to hear about it at Story@JourneyColorado.com.
