Series: Living Life Backwards – Part 4
Speaker: Scotty Priest
Date: December 10, 2023
This series, “Living Life Backwards” has challenged me to consider my life from a different view and perspective. I have been asking myself questions like, ‘What am I doing today that is making a difference in the lives of others around me?’ Also, ‘Do others see Christ in me?’ We can be encouraged by the truth that, from this day forward we can determine our legacy and our story.
Psalms 90:12
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
James 4:14
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
1. Who in your life has positively impacted you, maybe without even knowing? How has that influenced the direction of your life?
2. Leaving a lasting legacy takes intentionality. How have you been, or how can you be intentional in the areas below?
Serving – Philippians 2:3-4
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Giving – 2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Inviting – Luke 14:23
So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.
3. Read 1 Corinthians 3:10-14
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.
Our lives are full of daily opportunities to glorify God in all we say and do. What parts of the text above stand out to you and why? How can you continue to move forward and build a foundation that is lasting?
