What is one of your favorite memories with family or your favorite people?

Observation & Discussion (30 Minutes)

Psalm 127:1-5 — 1 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. . In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves. 3 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

Joshua 24:15 — But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve … But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6:5-9 — 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

1. Verse 1 in Psalm says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” What does this tell us about God’s role in our efforts?
2. Are there areas of your life that are difficult to trust God with or give up control over?
3. What can we learn about God’s view of children and family from this passage?
4. We are all in different seasons of life with family and children. From these passages and the message, what is one verse or point that stands out to you and why?
