In marriage and in every relationship, God calls us to be more like him, as he has created us in his image and likeness. Read back through the passages below while keeping in mind the idea that God uses others in our lives to bring us to holiness through discipleship.
Genesis 1:26 — …Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Romans 8:29 — For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
1 John 3:2 — Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
- Is there someone in my life I often find myself trying to change or wishing they would change? It could be your spouse, your child, a coworker etc. It can often sound like, “if this person just stopped doing blank, then I would be happier.”
- Sometimes our greatest rub with others is where God wants us to grow and rely on him, in order to become more like Christ. Is there a situation or person in your life where God is asking you to take your eyes off of the other person and focus on the transformation he wants to do in your life? What might that ‘transformation’, or area to grow in be?
- Discipleship was described as, “when I look at God’s word and evaluate my life and actions against it.” What is one thing you can commit to this week to practice discipleship with Jesus?
John 3:3 — “He must become more…and I must become less”
