Warm-Up
  1. Where have you seen God at work this week?
  2. Have you ever started reading Leviticus and found it hard to get through? What made it challenging?
  3. What stood out to you from the message on Sunday?
Know It

Read Leviticus 1:1 and Leviticus 16. What stood out to you?

1. How do we see evidence of God’s holiness in this passage?

It is because God is holy and perfect that He is able to set these detailed directions and requirements of how He should be approached. These specific steps aren’t random or needlessly complicated but all serve a purpose that reveal God’s holiness and point us to His path of redemption.

Read 1 Peter 1:13-21 – How do we see God’s holiness in the character of Jesus?

2. How do we see Jesus and His sacrifice through the image of the scapegoat?

Jesus can be found all over the Old Testament. Every book contains some foreshadowing, prophecy, or image of Christ that allows us to connect the dots when He finally shows up on the scene.

Read Romans 3:25-26 – How have you personally experienced Jesus being your substitute as a result of your sin?

Own It

1. How have you experienced God’s holiness firsthand?

God is completely set apart and separate from us sinful humans. The only reason that we get to be close to Him and approach the throne is because He made a way for us to do so through Jesus. Jesus’ sacrifice has allowed us to see God as Father and Friend, but that doesn’t mean that He is any less holy. Holding onto this perspective and having a healthy fear of the Lord is vital to a strong faith.

Read Leviticus 11:44-45 – How is the Lord calling you to join Him in His holiness?

2. How have you experienced the price and consequence of sin?

Approaching God with humility and recognizing your shortcomings is the best way to prepare your heart for the work He wants to do. We have all contributed to the broken world around us, but we also all have the opportunity to witness His redemption and healing.

How have you experienced God bridge the gap between you and Him?

Next Steps

1. What can you do this week to tangibly express your thanks to God?

In Leviticus, God’s people are asked to bring thanksgiving offerings and sacrifices to Him. While expressing your gratitude in a prayer is very powerful, physically doing something to honor the Lord can help us get into a whole different mindset.

Read Leviticus 7:11-21 – How do you see the relevance of the Fellowship Offering and the heart of Leviticus in your life today? Refer back to your sermon notes on why Leviticus matters and how it points back to Jesus.

2. If all believers are called a ‘royal priesthood’, what does that mean for how you live and serve today? Read 1 Peter 2:9

God wanted a relationship with His people in the Old Testament, and wants a relationship with us today. As followers of Jesus, we share in the priestly calling that God gave to Israel, to represent Him in this world and live set apart for Him.
